Officer Rose talks to Brilliance StudentsDecember 9, 2009 Addison, TX – Brilliance Preschool and Academy, a private preschool located in Addison, hosted Addison Police Officer Fred Rose.

Officer Fred Rose came to the school to teach kids about the role police officers serve in protecting the community, he taught them how to work with police and some neighborhood crime prevention techniques. Officer Rose is an 8 year veteran of the Addison Police Department and is a motorcycle officer who deals with traffic violations, motor vehicle collisions and patrolling his neighborhood.

The children at Brilliance Academy thoroughly enjoyed the experience of getting to speak with a real Addison officer. The teachers said the children were laughing and talking with the officer. “The kids were talking to Officer Rose, asking him questions about his job and how they could help,” said Assistant Director Michelle Clay.

Officer Rose said he really enjoys moments like this when he can come to a school and speak with kids about the challenges he faces with his job. “The kids really listen to you when you’re in the classroom, and we had a lot of fun today too,” remarked Officer Rose. Officer Rose spoke about his current job responsibilities such as: tackling antisocial behavior, reducing theft, robbery and street-related crime, combating organized crime, countering terrorism, supporting victims and providing a reassuring presence in the community. He spoke with them about his equipment such as tasers, firearms and even handcuffed one lucky student. Officer rose even deputized the students after the demonstration and presented them all with sticker badges.

When asked what the children learned Officer Rose said, “I spoke with them about different types of police officers there are, what detectives do and what beats the patrol officers’ work.”

“The children here at our Addison preschool really get a thrill out of meeting with the officer, you can see their smiling faces and how much joy they get from speaking with someone they would not normally get to,” said Director Kelly Mayberry.

Police Officers are often in the news but rarely do children get to interact with them one on one and speak with them about their profession. A lot of the time the community can take for granted the job that the police do, and educational events like this are very helpful to the people in the community that officers seek to protect.

Brilliance Preschool and Academy was very happy to have such an outstanding member of the community come to help educate their children on the activities of the police.
