Social media in schools

Thursday, January 14, 2010 16:00

Social media in the school environment is becoming more and more common across the Dallas landscape. Parents are tweeting and schools are tweeting back. With people increasingly relying on social media to get their news or their message out, educators have to be at the forefront of the movement. Schools are starting to move their content to where the student’s parents are paying attention. If little Billy’s mom is tweeting all day then it makes no sense for her to have to go to the schools website or get a piece of snail mail to know what events will happen in the next week. Many schools have set up Twitter and Facebook accounts where parents can learn about upcoming events and task their children will be involved in.

However, schools have to be wary of the content they post online. There have been times in the past where social media has led to foul-ups when the intent was to showcase a company or person in a positive light. But, for the most part social media has led to positive feelings in many fields. It will always be important for schools as well as companies to stay focused with their message and to relay the correct message to the people who are looking for them.
In a fast paced world where parents are constantly on the move social media helps them to connect and receive up to date information about their child’s education. Social media is helping these schools reach out to the parents who need them.

So when did it become a bad thing to be a blue collar worker in America

Wednesday, January 13, 2010 15:59

So when did it become a bad thing to be a blue collar worker in America? We all know we are all kept up in living the “fast life” and driving around in our leased BMW, whatever happened to the guy who was working at the factory driving a Dodge?

We were all taught to reach for a college education. The surest way for you to be a success in America is to get a degree and work in an office job. You follow the path from preschool to high school and then you go to college. It was meant to be the path that everyone takes. But is it the path that is best for everyone?
What’s wrong with someone going to a trade school to become an auto mechanic or a hair dresser? Don’t we need those people too? That’s why trade schools have gotten more appealing to a large section of America. These people think, “Why should I spend $50,000 and four years on a college degree when I can acquire a trade and be earning money in a year?” And they’re right. College isn’t for everyone.

Sign Language part 2

Tuesday, January 12, 2010 15:58

Sign Language stimulates learning through different senses and works well with kids that are visual, spatial and tactile learners. American Sign Language allows parents to “talk” to their children form a young age and gives children a way to engage with their parents before they can even speak!

ASL gives children the ability to speak with deaf children as well as teaching them how to work well with others.

Singing will meet communication needs much earlier than traditional speech. Traditionally children learn to speak about year 1 but with ASL they can learn to communicate non-verbally by 8 months. By year 2 they will have learned a totally new language that actually enhances their speech abilities, which allows them to integrate easier into traditional English classes.

Parents don’t worry because you will be there in the class learning alongside your children in a practical environment.  Sign Language classes provide parents with tools to communicate at an early age with students! It can be a bonding experience for parents and children. If you approach ASL lessons as a fun activity for you and your child so that you both come away with a great experience.

You can start your child off as early as 8 months with baby sign language courses. If you start your child off at year 2 they will pick up signing immediately. Remember, babies can pick up signing much earlier than they can speak so this allows you to “speak” with your child from a very early age!

Do you have problems knowing what your child wants? Do you have problems communicating with an infant?
Then American Sign Language Seminar from Brilliance Academy can help you relate to your child through the power of sign language!

No longer will your child fumble with spoken words, they will be able to “talk” to you and sign different messages. Is your child hungry or cold? They can sign their feelings to you in an informative manner which allows you to address their issues from an early age.

ASL seminars from Brilliance Academy will give you and your child a bonding experience that the both of you can cherish throughout your lives. Imagine being able to speak to each other from the stage at their first school play! No need to raise your voice when a sentence is just a hand gesture away!
